YellowWood Financial Advisors is Now Part of McKinley Carter Wealth Services

YellowWood Financial Advisors, in the D.C. Metro Area, is Now Part of McKinley Carter Wealth Services an Expanding Multi-Office Firm Headquartered in Wheeling, WV

Gaithersburg, MD – McKinley Carter Wealth Services, a regional wealth management firm with offices in Charleston, Parkersburg and Wheeling, WV, as well as Pittsburgh, PA, is pleased to announce their expansion into the metro D.C. market through the addition of YellowWood Financial Advisors (YWFA), located in Gaithersburg, MD.

YellowWood Financial Advisors was founded in 1993 by Brian Lipton. Brian started his career as a CPA concentrating on taxes, planning and business consulting services for a client base of business owners and professionals. In the early 90s, while managing a 25 person CPA Firm in Rockville, Maryland, Brian shifted his focus to financial advisory services. He became certified as a financial planner (CFP®) and founded YellowWood Financial Advisors in 1993 - combining the level of service, discipline and advocacy of a Certified Public Accountant with the skills and knowledge of an investment professional.

“I have known David McKinley for a number of years,” Lipton stated, “and I have spent a lot of time with McKinley Carter this past year to not only ensure a consistent and synergistic culture but to ensure (personal and client) expectations were addressed. I was particularly energized by their investment in people, processes and technology.”

McKinley Carter Wealth Services is an SEC registered independent wealth management firm. With nearly $700 million in assets under management, McKinley Carter provides Wealth Management and Trust Services for individuals and families committed to growing and protecting their wealth across multiple generations; Retirement Plan Services for businesses focused on the long-term financial success of their owners and employees; and Nonprofit Advisory Services for nonprofit organizations seeking long-term financial security and sustainability.

McKinley Carter’s roots begin with David H. McKinley, who, after working for a decade in the financial services industry in Wheeling, West Virginia, envisioned building an independent, multi-site investment advisory and financial planning firm. He wanted to create a firm small enough to provide highly personalized care, but large enough to provide technical expertise, continuity of care, and economies of scale.

McKinley has successfully scaled his operations into several locations. Soon after breaking away from his broker-dealer affiliation in 2005, McKinley expanded into Charleston, WV by forming a partnership with Will Carter. Will, an attorney, had formed Kanawha Investment and Trust Company in 2002 to provide a more comprehensive, independent, and proactive approach to wealth management in Charleston, West Virginia. McKinley and Carter recognized that their different professional and business backgrounds were complementary and McKinley Carter Wealth Services (“McKinley Carter”) was born in 2007.

In 2009, McKinley Carter opened an office in the greater Pittsburgh area by partnering with Brian T. Gongaware's NetWorth Investment Advisors, based in Wexford, PA. This merger added extensive investment management experience to an already accomplished investment staff.

In 2013, the firm opened an office in downtown Parkersburg, West Virginia – further expanding the firm’s geographic footprint in “The Mountain State.”

The addition of YellowWood Financial Advisors in Gaithersburg, Maryland, unites the two companies’ complementary services - strengthening the ability to serve clients more efficiently and productively, while also expanding McKinley Carter’s geographic footprint into the competitive D.C. market.

Brian Lipton serves as Regional Managing Director for McKinley Carter and will oversee the firm’s D.C. region. He also serves on the firm’s Investment Policy Committee, a team that is responsible for McKinley Carter’s investment strategy. Dave Walker will serve as Financial Strategist for McKinley Carter. With his vast experience working with Tamarac (a rebalancing and reporting software), Dave will be an invaluable addition to McKinley Carter’s Operations Team.

“The added capacity of a high caliber team and back office support providing the tools, technology and processes not only allows me to focus more time and energy on client services by alleviating many of the day-to-day responsibilities of running a business but also provides additional expertise and resources to enhance client service,” Lipton stated.

“We are excited to have Brian and Dave on our McKinley Carter team,” stated David McKinley. “They both bring a unique and valuable level of expertise with their accounting backgrounds and entrepreneurial spirits.”

“At McKinley Carter, we expend a lot of time, energy and money in developing our human capital, inventing new and improved standard practices for operations throughout the business, and adopting and adapting new technologies,” McKinley concluded. “We believe these investments positively engage our clients and employees - because together we create our future growth.”
